Meet Susan Shinn, Administrator of Outreach House

Susan Shinn is our new Administrator at Outreach House. Her job is to keep our residents comfortable, happy and active. She manages the employees, looks after maintenance of the house, and welcomes seniors deciding where to reside. Susan is sometimes a caregiver, a cook, a maintenance expert, or personnel manager. Susan Shinn

became Administrator in April 2007. She has substantial experience in elder care. Previously she was executive director of another local residential community. She has also been a manager of a large retail store. Susan's proven abilities to manage costs will help Outreach House keep monthly fees low for our residents.

Hanover Police Union adopts Outreach House

Jeff Ballard, a member of the Hanover police force, is also vice president of the Hanover Police Union, Local 27 of the New England Police Benevolent Association. Jeff's great grandmother, Martha Bond, lived at Outreach House for a number of years until she passed away this past winter. Jeff appreciated the care provided and suggested the police union adopt Outreach House.

Dartmouth medical students help with grounds keeping.

Half a dozen medical school students from Dartmouth College surprised Susan by arriving to clean up the whole yard, pruning the bushes, and raking the grass. Their Alfred Schweitzer foundation grant encourages this kind of community service. Our association with Dartmouth College helps in other ways, as well. Three Dartmouth

graduate students reside rent-free on the Outreach House third floor, in exchange for being available to residents who may need help during the nighttime.
